Pea's Book Of Best Friends

Meet eleven-year-old Pea and her definitely not ordinary life! When Pea’s quirky but cool single mum becomes the super-selling author of the Mermaid Girls series, everything changes overnight. It’s time to leave their tiny flat in Tenby for a fancy house in London, and a whole new life! Pea likes the red front door, and the attic bedroom all to herself. She even likes her hideous school uniform, in a Malory Towers sort of way. But something is missing. There’s an empty chair beside her in class, and no one seems to want to fill it. How will Pea get herself a best friend?

  • The first book about Pea and her topsy-turvy life
  • A modern rags-to-riches story told with warmth and wit
  • Explores themes of change, loneliness and fitting in
  • Susie Day won a BBC Talent Children’s Fiction Prize

“A modern classic in the making, with stunning characters, really engaging prose, and a lovely plot. Massively recommended!” Bookbag

  • Susie Day

Susie Day grew up in Penarth, Wales, with a lisp and a really unfortunate first name.

Her many careers have included guiding tourists, professional nappy-changing, teaching small people how many beans make five and taller people how to interrogate the beans from a post-structuralist perspective, and herding boarding school students – but she always wanted to be a writer. She firmly believes in the dictum “write what you know”, which is why this book is about cake, watching telly, and helpless romantic flailitude.

Susie lives in Oxford, and is probably drinking a cup of tea right now (she usually has one around this time of day).

Her first novel, BIG WOO!, was published in 2008: “I honestly don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard while reading … very highly recommended” Chicklish.
