Stay Where You Are and Then Leave

John Boyne broke all our hearts with his Holocaust story The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Now it’s the turn of the Great War. Perfectly timed for the First World War centenary: a wonder of a book to leave you shell-shocked. It’s the story of a small boy, Alfie Summerfield. And his father, who made a big promise and broke it the day after the war started. A story about a shoeshine boy, a train journey, a white feather. A dark secret. And the fate of thousands of men who gave everything they had to fight for their country in the war.

  • loved it

This is written by one of my most favourite authors; John Boyne. I love his approach on World War 2 and is a very sad, yet informative tale.
