The Mystery of Wickworth Manor
Paige Owens – bright, cheeky and confident – can’t wait to go to secondary school. Curtis Okafor, shy and wary, isn’t so sure. The only thing they share in common is the first letter of their surnames, which is how they are thrown together on a school trip to the local stately home. There, Curtis finds a portrait of a young black servant dressed in livery. But why is the portrait hidden in a bedroom, and not in pride of place beside the other portraits? Then Paige finds an intriguing letter written over two hundred years ago by Miss Verity Burton, who used to live at the Manor. What secret is this old house hiding? Paige and Curtis, in their very different ways, decide to find out. And what they dig up is not just an adventure but a ghost story with its roots in the slave trade…

I loved the original characters Elen Caldecott writes about and I could imagine the manor perfectly. But there was something lacking… I am currently reading another one of her books and I enjoy it alot more!
